PRTR Project - Introductory Meeting - Wednesday 20th September 2017 Wyndham Hotel, Ankara

Today was the introductory meeting for the new technical assistance project to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation (MoEU), the Beneficiary, was held at the Wyndham Hotel in Ankara. Almost 200 delegates attended the event the purpose of which was to introduce a wide group of stakeholders to the new technical assistance project on the establishment of a new Turkish Pollutant Release and Transfer Register.

The project is funded jointly by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey.

This new project was designed by the MoEU on the basis of the result and experiences gained from an earlier pilot project in Turkey on PRTR and funded by the UNEP – MAP programme.

The morning session was focused at a strategic level and speakers were drawn from senior management representatives of the key project stakeholders: MoEU; EUD; CFCU as well as from the project consortium.

There were a series of excellent and well received presentations delivered to the delegates by:

It was clear from the presentations that there were high hopes, and expectations, for the outputs of the project. The speakers underlined their institutional commitment to, and expectation for, the new PRTR system in Turkey.

The second session in the late morning and afternoon was an opportunity to hear more detailed technical presentations in relation to the project and its implementation.

In this regard there were presentations from project team members and the Beneficiary (MoEU) outlining key project activities and expected outputs. Theses presentations were delivered by:
